Rolf Sachs

3 equal parts

Rolf Sachs was born in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1955. Since 1994 he has been operating a highly creative, multidisciplinary studio in London. Sachs has a deep interest in the challenge of exploring and finding new aspects in both art and design. The work ‚3 equal parts’ is a re-edition of a piece from the early 90’s in which the artist was mostly concerned with the idea of deconstruction. Inspired by the great American Minimalist Donald Judd, Sachs equally aims to strip conventional objects such as a chair from its customary connotations. What remains are the essential modular elements, in a way the bones or the soul of the chair. Sachs is interested in finding new alignments that free a pre-conceived object of its rigidity allowing the viewer to visually perceive the chair as something completely new.
