ART AND LIFE ARE ONE AND THE SAME
Skyrocketing prices for contemporary art, along with a general fuss about the art market, have made a comeback to the front pages of major international daily newspapers: Roy Lichtenstein's "I Can See the Whole Room ... and There's Nobody in It!" reached 43.2 million dollars at the auction house Christie's in New York, and the 1999 work "RheinII" by German photographer Andreas Gursky sold shortly thereafter for $4.3 million. Record prices are demonstrating that the contemporary art boom continues to thrive in spite of the ongoing severe national debt and banking crises. Yet it is hardly surprising that investors are fleeing from shares and bonds and seeking refuge in the art market.

Fifteen years ago, when I first discovered my passion for art, the hype about contemporary art was still in its beginning phase. I had so many new things to discover: visual impressions, artistic movements, off-beat young artists, as well as all sorts of opinions and lifestyles. There were exhibitions at which I suddenly felt my heart pounding upon entering the room, so touched was I by what I saw and understood at that moment. Sometimes, the sight or the very idea of a particular work of art made me happy for days, and occasionally the motifs of artists opened up a whole new way for me to rethink my own life.

I am a visual person. Born into a textile company family, I early developed a flair for colors and materials. My interest in strong forms later led me to study architecture. In art, I was moved by the content as well. I love the freedom and alternative ways of thinking that exist in art. I admire many artists for their courage and ability to express their innermost feelings.

In recent years I have been able to collect 80 works, including many by artists such as Thomas Hirschhorn, Jack Pierson and Hadrien Dussoix. My way of collecting is emotional. I am an enthusiastic person and love to pass on my enthusiasm to others. The overwhelming response to the grounding of artsation.com proves to my team and me that, through our inventory, we are able to share or arouse this passion for art.

If you are already collecting art or toying with the idea of doing so, I invite you to artsation.com to discover a whole new way of experiencing art. For me, art and life are one and the same. I am always trying to understand and experience them anew, and working with you to face this challenge is my most important task.
Sincerely yours, Karin Srb
