Tom Sachs
Pandaba
The American Tom Sachs was born in New York in 1966. He is known especially for his accurately made interpretations of several contemporary icons. Like all his sculptures Pandaba is also designed in a way that the viewer can see exactly how the work was composed: the jointings are not abraded and every screw is explicitly visible. The bronze statue was created in 2009 and refers to another character of the flashy colorful, Japanese toy company Sanrio (Hello Kitty). Sachs' works are not hiding behind "clean" concepts but also always suggest the unfinished and hand-made as a contrast to the desired perfection of mass consumption. Tom Sachs |
