Sol Le Witt
Untitled
Sol LeWitt was born 1928 in Hartford, Connecticut, and worked in New York until his death in 2007. He was a member of the Minimalist Movement and assisted in formulating the idea of conceptual art. After studying art, he worked as a graphic designer and quickly began to focus on the constructivism of the Bauhaus. LeWitt continually experimented with architectural space structures reducing his ideas and images to a minimum. What remained, were theoretical works, often built on a grid pattern and grid structures - as seen in this work. It shows what LeWitt stands for as an artist: "Conceptual" art. It aims to intellectually attract and demonstrate the different steps and ideas (the concept). In contrast to that stands the "Perceptual art" that focuses purely on tie visual aspects. Sol Le Witt |
