When Peter Doig's painting "White Canoe" was auctioned for $ 11.3 million in 2007, the Scottish artist became Europe's most expensive living artist for some time. Although this auction result came unexpectedly, Peter Doig was by no means unknown. Already in the 90s he was nominated for the Turner Price, was represented with works in well-known exhibitions and collections. Doig is a painter, works with references from the history of painting and sets himself in a painterly tradition.
