"Red Fall II"

Katy Stone (American, b.1969) is a professional artist who is connected to the abstract sublime movement. She was born in Rockford, IL, and grew up in rural Iowa. She enrolled at Iowa State University in Ames, IA, where she studied painting, drawing and printmaking. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1992 From 1992 to 1994 she moved to Seattle, WA to pursue her Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Washington.
Since childhood, the nature of intense emotions provoked in stone. She continues to draw her inspiration from nature. While still an undergraduate student, presented her painting Professor them into a book entitled The Abstract Sublime. It was only then that stone could be a name, what they had produced set. The artist calls them influencers, such as Mark Rothko (American, 1903-1970) and Joan Mitchell (American, 1925-1992).
While Stone was in Seattle, WA, as a graduate student, her work was more accurate. She also started materials such as translucent paper and wax instead of oil colors to use. After her MFA, she began an even wider range of materials such as adhesive tape, tar paper, feathers, sequins and use. For five years, lived and worked in Missoula, MT stone; she then was then back to Seattle in 2001, that the images in her work became clearer and she began to archive acetate to use.
Stein recent work has been influenced by Chinese landscape painting. Her paintings have been featured in a number of exhibitions in galleries such as the Gallery Atrium in St. Louis, MO, the Missoula Art Museum, Missoula, MT, and the Neuhoff Gallery, New York, NY. Her play The Blue Falls (Spectrum) is part of the collection of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. A piece that it was created in 2007, Nautilus Sprawl is on display at the Carl Solway Gallery in Cincinnati, OH. Stone has several awards to her name, including the Best of Show Award in the Pacific Northwest year in Bellevue Art Museum in Bellevue, WA, and Seattle Collects Purchase Price the city of Seattle, WA. The artist lives and works in Seattle.
