Gottfried Bechtold
Crash Porsche Kids
Gottfried Bechtold was born 1947 in Bregenz. Originally he worked with sculpture, but later he began to focus on experimental art and frequently used materials such as iron and concrete. His previous work exemplifies the overcoming of the traditional concept of sculpture. In 1971 „Porsche“ or „Concrete Porsche“ (the cast of his own car) appeared for the first time. In 2001 the „Crash-Porsche“ and in 2006 eleven other casts of the current Porsche 911-series followed. The artist exhibited these works on the forecourt of the Kunsthaus Bregenz. It is the paradox of an object representing speed being cast in concrete, that impressed the critics. Bechtold completed the subject Porsche, the myth of the car and the idea of speed with a Porsche Carrera S-997 that he obtained from a junkyard. Gottfried Bechtold |
