Thomas Stimm is a border crosser: The artist (born in 1948 in Vienna) commutes between Austria (Ilz) and Germany (Cologne) as well as between apparent naivety and alienation. The motives of his colourful sculptures come from nature. He transforms simple vegetable shapes like trees and flowers or herbage into a stylized form, so that they are identifiable at first sight. His articulation is clear, elementary and comprehensible and at the same time the aesthetic depth of his work is undeniable. His sculptures come from reality and nevertheless the deviate from nature in decisive aspects like colour or size. Thus there are sculptures of Thomas Stimm in miniature as well as in monumental size.
