Kasseler Serie IV

Günther Forg was a prominent German painter, graphic designer, sculptor and photographer. He studied from 1973 until 1979 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Karl Fred Dahmen. Förg had a strong interest in geometrical, abstract, and heavily-dyed pictures. His photographs were very large formats showing famous architectural sites such as Hans Poelzig's IG Farben Building in Frankfurt. The buildings had a strong cultural and political significance for example Bauhaus structures in Israel. In the 1990's, Förg began paintings and works on paper, known as 'Gitterbilder'. Förg had first his first solo exhibition at Rüdiger Schöttle Gallery, Munich, in 1980 with a series of monochrome paintings. Besides his work could be seen at the documenta IX exhibition, which takes place every five years in Kassel, Germany. In 1996, Günther Förg was awarded the Wolfgang Hahn Prize.
