Candida Höfer was born in Eberswalde in 1944. In 1976, she graduated from her studies at the Art Academy in Dusseldorf. Until 1982 she studied photography with Bernd Becher. Today the artist lives and works in Cologne. Höfer's interest in people, especially in their cultural and social environment, can be seen indisputably in all of her works.
With her photographs, Höfer directs attention to architectural situations, from which one may assume that they influence the public and are subsequently influenced by it. This can be seem in the work "Fundacion Marcelino Botin", a northern Spanish foundation dedicated to the promotion of art and culture.
