It is mainly the social and cultural aspect of human living that is in the center of Candida Höfers work (b. 1944 in Eberswalde). The German photographer studied at the academy of arts Düsseldorf with Professor Bernd Becher (degree in 1982) and is part of the "Becher-Schule", a group of internationally renowned German photographers. Candida Höfer lives and works in Cologne.
The work „Palast Rom“ from a series of architecure photographs, is a typical work of Höfer. She is keen to capture the opulent furnishings and order of the rooms and is playing with the light until the photographs achieve a painterly quality.
