Wang Du is a recognized master of manipulation of images that appeal to the mass media. He is an iconoclast who appropriates and deconstructs the images of our society, in particular, he is interested in the pictures that have to do with the logic of creation, consumption and manipulation of information. In his often large-scale sculptures and installations Wang transforms you some of the most spectacular mass media images in irony and absurdity. The artist once said, "I organize my projects, how organize the mass media reality". "Les Modes" about, is a series of five bronze sculptures that represent like oversized crumpled newspaper pages and the five major cultures and languages ​​represent: Arabic, American, Russian, Spanish and Chinese. Wang Du compares everyday gestures such as wrinkling, folding, tearing, throwing newspapers and papers, with sculptural gestures.
Through his approach, modeling clay and the fine cast, Wang provides you a tension here between the transience and uncertainty of information and the monumental materiality of bronze.
 
Wang Du was born in 1956 in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, the son of a factory manager and painted and drew as a child very happy. At age 16, he began working among others in mine pits and in the steel industry, while he was active as an artist in his spare time. From 1981 to 1985 he studied at the College of Design, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in Canton, but without making a conclusion. In 1986 he founded the artist group "The Salon of Artists of Southern China". Since 1990 the artist lives in Paris.
1998/1999 he was a teacher at the École supérieure d'art de Brest and from 1997 to 2002, he taught in the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Paris VIII.
