Tina Berning, born in 1969 in Braunschweig, Germany, examines in her drawings and watercolors the human body, its shortcomings and its relationship to beauty. Berning's figures are graceful and yet imperfect. The artist uses motives from glossy magazines of the lifestyle industry and then confronts them with old, yellowed and torn papers. In her illustrations the stereotypes are given a new shape, they become fragile and vulnerable, manifesting the idea of man as all the more.
