VB 08-36

Vanessa Beecroft was born in Genoa, Italy, in 1969. Since 1993 the artist lives and works in New York. Her art has been shown in numerous exhibitions, already in 1997 at the Venice Biennale. "VB 08-36" is a visual extract of Beecroft‘s live performance. With its strictly prescribed choreography it had a resounding success in New York‘s Guggenheim Museum in March 1998. She arranges young women with wigs, makeup and uniform lingerie, de-individualized, grouped in silence for a tableaux-vivant, which contains numerous allusions to art history of the 18th and 19th Century. The subjects of her productions appear as eery, flawless and surreal beeings.
