Tom Sachs

Tampax

Tom Sachs (born in 1966 in New York) became famous for his very special and meticulous interpretations of modern consumer icons. The American artist's sculptures, drawings and ready-mades seem to be funny at first glance. But longer contemplation reveals their ambiguous and sometimes even oppressive character. The work "Tampax" is part of the series "Drawings 2000-2010" a very substantial part of the work of Tom Sachs. Tom Sachs' drawings refer to western popular culture, they deal with advertising, medial excess and the constant desire for luxury goods. "Magnum" is a striking example for Tom Sachs' way of working. He deliberately creates an aesthetic contrast of the of the handmade vs. the perfection of the serially produced.
