Tom Sachs
Magnum
The American pop artist was born in 1966 in New York. Tom Sachs's meticulous revisions of contemporary consumer icons seem to be funny at first sight. Though in the next instance comes into its own the oppressive and ambiguous nature of those sculptures, drawings and ready-mades. The work "Magnum" is part of the series "Drawings 2000-2010", a very substantial part of the work of the american artist. Tom Sachs' drawings refer to western popular culture, they deal with advertising, medial excess and the constant desire for luxury goods. "Magnum" is a striking example for Tom Sachs' way of working. He deliberately creates an aesthetic contrast of the of the handmade vs. the perfection of the serially produced. |
