Thomas Locher
x-z
Thomas Locher (b. 1956 in Munderkingen) puts into question language and words as determinants of thought and perception. With "Nummernarbeiten" for instance, geometric compositions with numbered colour fields, the German artist wants to create an art work about language without using language. Locher, who lives and works in Berlin, tackles the problem to express linguistic issues without words and sentences. The result is no purely aesthetic art work that you can easily consume. The result is a sign system that you cannot understand by implication. But you can see that there is a system. With these works Locher picks out human interaction as a central theme. Thomas Locher |
