The artist Stephan Balkenhol, born 1957 in Hessen, is probably one of the most famous wood carvers in the world. A unique technique and mode of expression make his works distinctive. The work of Balkenhol shown here, the coin, differs significantly in the material but the artist‘s handwriting is clearly marked in the male portrait. Balkenhol's coins were part of the exhibition "capital and artistic strategies" (Reception Gallery, Berlin) as an approach to the relationship between art and money. This aesthetic and also humorous object is a wonderful jewel and with its visual language a typical Balkenhol.
