Roy Fox Lichtenstein is, after Andy Warhol, probably the most famous pop artist. It was a time of economic boom in America, when Lichtenstein became famous with his comic-like paintings and prints. Although the aesthetic basis of his work is oriented on a cheerful mass-culture, Lichtenstein's work is by no means uncritical. It illuminates social problems as well as art historical and cultural developments.
