Roy Lichtenstein

Landscape 10

Roy Lichtenstein had his international breakthrough in the early 1960s thanks to his comic motifs. Paintings like “Hopeless” (1963) or “M-Maybe” (1965) quickly became icons everyone in the art world knew. But during these years Roy Lichtenstein not only created comic motifs but also abstract works, compositions of shapes and patterns that were then still overshadowed by his other works. Looking back on Lichtenstein's oeuvre, precisely these works are highly intriguing. In them all the creative energy and love of abstraction that distinguish Roy Lichtenstein become visible. The work “Landscape 10” is part of a cycle of 10 works in which the artist translates collages on foil and patterned paper into print. Roy Lichtenstein created works that refer almost exclusively to pre-fabricated patterns. They represent Pop Art in its purest form.
