Richard Prince

Jokes

Richard Prince was born in the Panama Canal Zone in 1949. The artist lives and works in New York. Prince is known for recycling material, headlines, pictures and photographs mainly from the american tabloid press playing with them, quoting them wrongly and provoking with them. The series „Jokes“ is sometimes political and sometimes politically incorrect - the works often allude to a decline in society and don‘t necessarily hit everyone‘s sense of humor. The hand-written prints are submission for the popular series „Joke Paintings“, in which Prince writes his jokes on a random and independent background, for example a cloudy sky. Later he also used objects like wheels or bonnets for his texts and jokes.
