Markus Lüpertz
Ohne Titel (Schildkröte orange)
The eccentric painter, sculptor, and graphic artist Markus Lüpertz was born in 1941 in Reichenbach, Böhmen. He is one of the most prominent contemporary German artists. Most of his works are considered to belong to the genre of neo-expressionism. Lüpertz strives to break with tradition in his art, so he often reworks what the viewer believes to have recognized, be it a material or a technique, in a perplexing new way in order to situate it in an exotic context. The six untitled colored etchings are based on a theme typical of Lüpertz, namely Greek mythology and its symbology. They are peaceful works - almost contemplative. The turtle is an allegorical representation of the underworld, but also fertility and patience. Markus Lüpertz |
