The Clock - Christian Marclay's video collage at Kunsthaus Zürich

Shown at the Venice Biennale 2011, “The Clock“ delighted masses of visitors. Now, the video collage will be presented at Kunsthaus Zürich (24 August - 2 September).

Christian Marclay’s masterpiece “The Clock“ was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale. It is made up of thousands of film clips by the us-american artist, and is put together to a video of the unbelivable running time of 24 hours.

The website of the Kunsthaus announces that the film can be viewed during general opening hours. Film and art lovers will have two chances to see the whole film non-stop: It will be shown straight through from 10 a.m. on Friday 24 August to 6 p.m. on Saturday 25 August. The gallery will remain open overnight. And also from 31 August to 1 September, when ‘The Clock’ will once again be shown in its entirety. September 2, will be the last day of the screening.

The video collage deals with time and clocks – but it is also a chronograph in its own right. Over a 24-hour period, it shows us a watch, alarm clock or clock tower from a new film every minute, each displaying the actual time at the location. From the rash of film material, Christian Marclay assembled a film without a plot, a central character or a proper conclusion. But the collage fascinates with its humourous scenes, its soundtrack and its intriguing pulling effect.
