Fred Sandback

Ohne Titel (gelbe Streifen)

Fred Sandback was born in 1943 in New York, where he also committed suicide in 2003. He studied sculpture in Connecticut and became known for his unusual sculptures, made out of threads that were stretched across the room into geometric figures. The print (Yellow Stripes) is a reference to these thread-sculptures. Sandback, who saw himself as a sculptor, worked, especially in his later years, with these gentle and soft colors - it was always his intention to give stimuli, not to tell stories. He was interested in "the diffuse interface between myself, my environment and others who populate this area, built of thin lines that leave enough space to move through them and around them ... A drawing that one can inhabit. "(Sandback, Here and Now, Art Museum Lichtenstein, Vaduz, 2005.)
