She was born into a family that was as prestigious as it was glamorous. She was always searching for something new, something exciting, something adventurous. It was probably inevitable for her to meet Andy Warhol sooner or later in the New York of the 1960s. In Andy and his factory she found what she was looking for: An endless whirl of lifestyle, drugs, pop and art, sucking a growing number of young people in.
But Bridgit Berlin did not merely immerse herself in this world to get lost in it, she did not get addicted. She distilled from and despite everything around her, her very own approach to art.
Her art is very much about herself, her body and its image. Bridgit Berlin's "Tit Paintings" are feminist statements, but at the same time they are a confirmation of her own self through its immediate depiction. "I was here", the artist whispers to the observer through her works - minimal, powerful and still a bit existentialistic.
