Jonathan Lasker - Biography
The creation of his large-scale plays with colour is a process. He starts with schematic sketches in post-card-size, they have to convey order and clarity. Endless, curved lines form geometric structures on the painting, next to this colours applied directly from the tube interweave. Parts of the painting are separated from one another, others interlace in a way that makes it impossible to clearly differentiate between back- and foreground. Only then does Jonathan Lasker transfer his sketches onto the large canvases.
How can the artist direct the observers' conscious and unconscious human perception?
The artist's pictogram-like works are created step by step. The essential elements are combined and positioned anew again and again, a process that gives his work a distinctive image language.
Born in Jersey City, USA in 1948, in his art the conceptional artist mostly deals with the question of shape. In which form do things and creatures manifest themselves? How can the artist direct the observers' conscious and unconscious human perception?
