Alex Katz is an artist who has always followed his own path and his own artistic idea consequently and emphatically. This stance makes it sometimes tough for the audience to categorize the artist, and people have tried in vain to assign Katz to Realism or Pop Art. He has refused both and has always been considered a bit unwieldy. If you look back at his works of the last decades however, all the wealth that was created by his focus and concentration becomes obvious. Katz learns new techniques with ease, he takes his works further and reinterprets them constantly. Alex Katz basically uses all mediums of painting and graphic as his tools. His works are created with the most interesting materials and techniques, but they are always an Alex Katz.
