Alex Katz

Coleman's pond

The American artist Alex Katz was born in Brooklyn on July 24, 1927 and was artistically supported by his parents from an early age. He studied at The Cooper Union in New York and began painting still lifes, unfortunately with modest success. He became known for his figurative painting.
His motifs range from figures and portraits to systematically reduced landscapes.
"Coleman's Pond" is an outstanding example of his minimalist approach to landscapes. With simple lines on a blue background, it indicates heaven and earth and gives an idea of the details of vegetation.
He cannot be dissuaded from his typical way of working and his vision is clearly recognizable here too. The snapshot is haunting and peculiar and holds the "perfect moment" for Katz.
