From 24th February to 1st March the renowned contemporary art fair ARCO takes place for the 34th time in the Spanish capital of Madrid. At the exhibition grounds of the Feria de Madrid numerous national galleries will provide a great insight into the vibrant spanish art scene showcase alongside international exhibitors.
The gallery Àngels barcelona for example presents the collaged works of Pep Agut as well as other works by Peter Downsbrough, Harun Farocki and Esther Ferrer (www.angelsbarcelona.com). The Munich-based Galerie Barbara Gross will showcase the fascinating art of Kiki Smith amongst others (www.barbaragross.de).
This year special focus will be directed on Colombia, which has the spot as a guest country and is going to be featured with 10 galleries (#arcoColombia). The curator Juan A. Gaitán has selected 20 young Colombian artists for this event whose works are representative of the artistic creativity of this Hispanic country.
In addition to promoting Hispanic art, the ARCO also strives giving young galleries a platform. Under the title #opening the art fair gathered 20 young galleries - not older than 7 years - from 10 different countries, thus opening up new horizons.
So if you are interested in the Latin American and/or Spanish art scene, the ARCO should not be missed! The catalog is available online as a download:
