Andreas Schulze

Ohne Titel (der erste Schnee)

Schulze studied painting from 1976 to 1983 at the polytechnic university in Kassel and later, under Dieter Krieg at the art academy in Düsseldorf. Since 2009 he teaches painting at the academy. His paintings concern themselves with a post-industrial, archaic thematic and visualization. He employs perspective as a symbolic form which turns into a sort of ready-made. The clear yet unpolished paintings set the scene for a humorous dimension within the idea of infinity which manifests itself especially within the almost obsessive repetition of everyday motifs such as the window. For the work seen here, Schulze painted over the photograph of a landscape, where the snowflakes act as a graphic curtain that veils an ordinary almost bleak situation.
