Alex Katz has always consequently followed his own artistic path, his own artistic idea. This is why it has always been hard for the audience to put him into a category, and people tried to label his art Realism or Pop Art. He refused those attempts vehemently and was consequently seen as a little bit unwieldy. If you look back at his oeuvre today, the richness that emerged from that Hermeticism becomes visible. He uses new techniques with ease, carries his works further and reinterprets them. He is not afraid to use every available medium in painting or graphics as a tool. Alex Katz' works are created from different materials and mediums, yet they are always distinctively Alex Katz.
